Ananda College Celebrates Unprecedented Success in 2023 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination

Ananda College proudly celebrates its highest achievements in recent years with the extraordinary success of its students in the 2023 G.C.E. Advanced Level examination. A total of 179 boys achieved 3A passes, with an impressive 82% qualifying for university entrance. This milestone underscores the relentless dedication and hard work of our students and faculty.

To honour these remarkable achievements, a special event was organized, graced by the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunga, as the chief guest. The event began with a solemn religious ceremony organized by the Buddhist Society, setting a tone of gratitude and reflection for the success attained.

Ananda College Achieves Remarkable Success in 2023

Ananda College has reached new heights of academic excellence, marking a significant milestone in its storied history. The recently released results of the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination 2023 highlight the outstanding performance of our students, with 179 boys achieving 3A passes across various streams. This remarkable accomplishment underscores the dedication and hard work of both our students and faculty.

Breakdown of 3A Passes by Stream:

Physical Science: 65 students
Biological Science: 27 students
Commerce: 62 students
Arts: 12 students
Engineering Technology: 8 students
Non-Stream: 5 students

In addition to the exceptional 3A passes, 82% of our students have qualified for university entrance, reflecting the strong academic foundation and supportive learning environment at Ananda College.

An Anandian strikes again after a lapse of several years

We are immensely proud to announce that W. A. Charith Irodha, a distinguished student of Ananda College, has achieved the remarkable feat of securing the island first place in the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination 2023 in the Physical Science (Mathematics) stream. His outstanding Z-score of 3.0271 reflects his dedication, intelligence, and hard work.

Charith's achievement is a testament to his relentless pursuit of academic excellence and the unwavering support of his teachers, family, and friends. His accomplishment bears witness to the leadership taken by the Principal Mr. D M L P Dissanayeke and the Management to improve the academic standard and skills of the scholars to excel in national level examinations. Throughout his time at Ananda College, he has exemplified the qualities of a true Anandian, consistently demonstrating academic prowess, leadership, and a commitment to excellence.

This extraordinary accomplishment not only brings immense pride to Ananda College but also serves as an inspiration to all our students to strive for greatness and pursue their dreams with determination and perseverance.

Charith had his primary education at Dammissara National School, Nattandiya and secured 184 marks at the Grade 5 scholarship examination and joined Ananda College at Grade 6. He brought glory to Mother Ananda as he secured 9A passes at the G C E Ordinary Level Examination 2020.

A Land Mark Achievement in Battle of the Maroons History

In an unprecedented display of communal spirit and mutual success, the 94th Annual Battle of the Maroons, cricket encounter between Ananda College and Nalanda College that concluded in the month of March, has achieved a historic milestone in fundraising. The organizers of the event, the Battle of the Maroons Joint Committee has pledged to offer an astounding Rs. 30 million for the benefit of the two schools whiles also reserving an additional Rs. 5 million in funds for the event next year.

The Joint Committee spearheaded by Co – chairmen, Mr. Upali Dharmadasa and Air Chief Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala accompanied by its advisory board consisting of Secretary of Defense General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne and Air Force Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksha has already disbursed the first installment of this promised amount to both schools at Rs. 2.5 million each.

The Buddhist Society of Ananda College organized a successful blood donation camp to celebrate the Vesak festival, with over 200 donors participating. The event, held in collaboration with the Blood Bank, Colombo, highlighted the spirit of compassion and community service central to Vesak.

The participation of students, staff, Old Anandians and community members underscored the collective commitment to saving lives and supporting the healthcare system.

The Buddhist Society extends heartfelt gratitude to all donors and volunteers who contributed to the event's success. Their generosity not only helped replenish blood banks but also embodied the true essence of Vesak by spreading kindness and goodwill. This initiative reflects dedication of Anandians to fostering social responsibility and humanitarian values among its students.

The event was organized under the patronage of the Venerable Maha Sangha of the Academic Staff and the under the guidance and supervision of the principal Mr. D.M.L.P. Dissanayake

Ananda College Hosts First-Ever Vesak Pageant

The Buddhist Association of Ananda College successfully organized its inaugural Vesak Perahera, marking a significant event in the Vesak Kalaapaya celebrations. This momentous occasion was attended by over 700 participants and featured a variety of traditional events.

The Perahera commenced from Ananda College and proceeded along Magazine Road, through Borella Junction, before returning to the school premises. This route provided an excellent backdrop for the colorful and spiritually significant procession.

One of the highlights of the Perahera was the inclusion of the majestic Nuwara Magul Athaa Indiraaja Elephant, along with five other elephants, which added grandeur and a sense of tradition to the event. The procession featured more than ten carefully coordinated events, showcasing the rich cultural heritage associated with Vesak.

The chief guest for the event was Saman Ekanayake, the Presidential Secretary, whose presence underscored the importance of the Perahera. Sanithu Hettiarachchi, the President of the Buddhist Association, along with the Board of Officials, played a pivotal role in organizing and executing the event.

Several schools were invited to participate in the Perahera, adding to the diversity and vibrancy of the procession. Notable among these were Gampaha Bandaranayake College, Ashoka College Colombo 10, Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, and St. Paul's Girls' School Milagiriya.

Sharing and Caring; Inculcating Buddhist values among the young Anandians

The Buddhist Association of Ananda College, with the support of the primary section and its principal, Nuwan Priyantha, organized the donation of 250 dry ration packets to low-income earners around the school, without regard to religious differences. This initiative, supported by Principal Lal Dissanayake, It was conducted for the first time simultaneously with the Vesak Kalapaya. The project aimed to distribute dry food to the underprivileged near Maradana around Ananda College.

Vesak Festival.

Vesak is the most significant Buddhist festival celebrated by the Buddhist all over the world. Ananda College being the premier Buddhist educational institute of the country has organized a series of events to mark three major events of the life of Lord Buddha. Under the patronage of the principal Mr. D M L P Dissanayake the Buddhist Society of Ananda College has taken the initiative to organize several cultural performances to add the festive atmosphere reflecting the commitment to the Buddhist Philosophy.

The three day leadership training camp for assistant prefects concluded successfully

The Leadership Training Camp was an unparalleled blend of rigor and enlightenment, pushing every participant to their limits while instilling invaluable leadership skills. Through relentless teamwork exercises, strategic problem-solving sessions, and inspiring keynote speeches from industry pioneers, as well as the Galle face Road run and the Camp fire not only fortified participants' resilience but also ignited their passion for visionary leadership.

The intense, hands-on experience demanded unwavering dedication and hard work, yet the transformative results were evident in the newfound confidence, heightened emotional intelligence, and the robust network of driven peers each attendee carried forward. This camp wasn't just a training ground it was a crucible where future leaders were moulded.
