Foundation and Impact

Established in 2003, the Ananda College Model United Nations Association (ACMUNA) has become a leading force in Sri Lanka’s MUN community. The association's history took a significant turn with the founding of the Simulation SAARC in 2005, a groundbreaking event that laid the groundwork for the Sri Lanka Model United Nations (SLMUN). Over the past 20 years, ACMUNA has maintained its prominence, notably producing an impressive number of Secretaries-General for SLMUN, including Mr. Saajith Bandara in 2008 and Mr. Deelaka Wickramasinghe in 2024.

Key Initiatives

ACMUNA is renowned for its signature initiatives, which include the ACMUNC, Sri Lanka's largest and most elaborate school-run MUN conference, first held in 2016. This event has become a staple in the MUN circuit, showcasing the club's dedication to excellence. Another key initiative is the Special Crisis Session, an annual interactive MUN debate designed to simulate real-world crisis scenarios, providing participants with a unique platform to enhance their problem-solving skills. Additionally, UN Day is celebrated to honor the UN’s role in promoting global peace and progress.

Achievements and Awards

The association's excellence is also reflected in its extensive list of achievements. ACMUNA has earned seven Best Delegate Awards (Gold) at various prestigious conferences, including MCMUN'23, LISMUN'23, and SLRMUN'24. The club has also received eight Higher Commendation Awards (Silver) and ten Honorary Mention Awards (Bronze), highlighting its consistent performance and commitment to MUN excellence.

Notable Accolades

Among its notable accolades, ACMUNA has been recognized with the Best Working Paper Awards and Best Novice Awards, further underscoring its dedication to fostering new talent and innovative ideas within the MUN community. These awards reflect the club’s ongoing efforts to lead and inspire in the realm of Model United Nations.
