Kicking Beyond Borders: Anandians Conquer International Taekwondo Arena in Malaysia

August 7, 2025

Ananda College proudly celebrates a momentous achievement as its Taekwondo team delivered an extraordinary performance at the CK Classic International Taekwondo Tournament, held in Malaysia from 9th to 15th July 2025. This high-profile competition brought together top-tier martial artists from around the world, and the young Anandians rose to the occasion with unmatched skill, discipline, and determination.

In total, the team secured 10 medals, marking one of the most successful international outings in the school’s recent sporting history. Competing across three key events—Poomsae, Speed Kicking, and Kyorugi (Fighting)—the students demonstrated technical excellence and commendable fighting spirit.

In the Poomsae category, Risindu Bandara Daladawatta and Kaveesha Hettiarachchi each earned a bronze medal, showcasing their control, balance, and mastery of form. The Speed Kicking event turned out to be a golden arena for the team, with Sakul Kumara, Risindu Bandara, Sethika Senew, and Chanithu Weerathsinghe all winning gold medals in their respective divisions. In Kyorugi, a test of courage and combat skills, Risindu, Kaveesha, and Chanithu claimed silver medals, while Sethika added another bronze to the medal count.

The team, captained by Sethika Senevi and vice-captained by Kaveesha Hettiarachchi, also included Chanithu Weerathsinghe, Risindu Bandara Daladawatta, and Sakul Kumara—each playing a vital role in the team’s collective triumph. Their achievement is a testament to their unwavering commitment, hours of disciplined training, and unbreakable team spirit.

This victory was made possible under the dedicated guidance of Mr. Chathura Athukorala, Teacher-in-Charge of Sports, and Mrs. Shirani Jayatissa, Assistant Teacher-in-Charge. The unwavering support of Mr. D. M. L. P. Dissanayake, Principal of Ananda College, provided the foundation for their preparation and participation. The team was rigorously trained by Mr. Romesh Rathnasekara, Head Coach, and Mr. Manoj Gimhan, Assistant Coach, whose leadership and mentorship were instrumental in achieving this international success.

Ananda College extends its heartfelt congratulations to these young warriors who have not only made their school proud but also raised the Sri Lankan flag high on foreign soil. Their triumph is not just a victory in sport—it is a celebration of resilience, excellence, and the unstoppable spirit of Ananda.
