Ananda College recently held its Primary Prefects Investiture Ceremony, marking a significant milestone for 82 Grade 5 students who were honoured with prefect badges. The event was presided over by the esteemed chief guest, senior journalist Mr Dharman Wickramarathne, who emphasized the importance of leadership within the realm of school education in his inspiring speech.
During his address, Mr. Wickramarathne stressed the value of being a leader, highlighting the responsibilities and the positive impact that young leaders can have on their peers and the school community. His words encouraged the newly appointed prefects to embrace their roles with dedication and integrity.
Principal Mr. D.M.L.P. Dissanayake also addressed the gathering, focusing on the essential leadership qualities that are crucial for becoming an effective leader. He pointed out that true leadership goes beyond mere authority; it involves empathy, responsibility, and a commitment to service.
Mr. Dissanayake further elaborated on the leadership principles that can be derived from Buddhist philosophy. He emphasized values such as compassion, mindfulness, and ethical conduct, which are integral to both personal development and effective leadership. By incorporating these principles, the new prefects were encouraged to lead by example and contribute positively to the school descipline of the students.
The Primary Prefects Investiture Ceremony was a proud moment for the students, their parents, and the entire Ananda College community. The event not only recognized the achievements of these young leaders but also set the foundation for their future roles in contributing to the school’s legacy of excellence. The Zonal Director of Education (Colombo) took part in the event as the Guest of Honour and Director of Primary Education too, took part in the event. The event was witnessed by the Management Committee of the Old Boys Association as well. This grand occasion was organised by the Primary Section of the college.
