Kaviru Mendis, UJ Suran Prabhashwara Sarathchandra, and R.M. Pabasara Tikiri Bandara Achieve Top Honors, Continue the Legacy of Mother Ananda The 8th Navy Open Shooting Championship 2024, held from March 16 to 23 at the Sri Lankan Navy Small Bore Firing Range Complex in Welisara, became a stage of triumph for Ananda College, Colombo 10, as three of its promising young marksmen emerged victorious in their respective categories.
Kaviru Mendis, a rising star in Air Gun Shooting Sports, showcased his remarkable talent by winning the 10 Meter Air Rifle Men Best Shooter Award. Mendis also secured the 1st place in the 10 Meter Air Rifle Junior Men category, solidifying his position as one of the top junior shooters in the country.
UJ Suran Prabhashwara Sarathchandra further contributed to Ananda College's proud legacy with an impressive performance in multiple events. Sarathchandra clinched the 10 Meter Air Pistol Youth Men Best Shooter Award and achieved a commendable 3rd place in the 10 Meter Air Pistol Open Men (Senior event). Additionally, he earned 2nd place in the 10 Meter Air Pistol Youth Men category, further establishing his prowess in the sport. His achievements have also earned him a place in the national pool as a Youth Men 10 Meter Air Pistol player, a testament to his dedication and skill.
Completing the trio of champions, R.M. Pabasara Tikiri Bandara excelled in the 10 Meter Air Rifle Men Break Barrel category, where he was awarded the Best Shooter Award. Bandara also secured the 1st place in the 10 Meter Air Rifle Break Barrel Junior Men category, demonstrating his exceptional abilities in the Break Barrel discipline. The successes of these young athletes at the Navy Open Shooting Championship underline the strong tradition of excellence at Ananda College.
