The Buddhist Association of Ananda College successfully organized its inaugural Vesak Perahera, marking a significant event in the Vesak Kalaapaya celebrations. This momentous occasion was attended by over 700 participants and featured a variety of traditional events.
The Perahera commenced from Ananda College and proceeded along Magazine Road, through Borella Junction, before returning to the school premises. This route provided an excellent backdrop for the colorful and spiritually significant procession.
One of the highlights of the Perahera was the inclusion of the majestic Nuwara Magul Athaa Indiraaja Elephant, along with five other elephants, which added grandeur and a sense of tradition to the event. The procession featured more than ten carefully coordinated events, showcasing the rich cultural heritage associated with Vesak.
The chief guest for the event was Saman Ekanayake, the Presidential Secretary, whose presence underscored the importance of the Perahera. Sanithu Hettiarachchi, the President of the Buddhist Association, along with the Board of Officials, played a pivotal role in organizing and executing the event.
Several schools were invited to participate in the Perahera, adding to the diversity and vibrancy of the procession. Notable among these were Gampaha Bandaranayake College, Ashoka College Colombo 10, Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, and St. Paul's Girls' School Milagiriya.
