Honouring Excellence: Hostel Guild Felicitates Outstanding Hostellers

The Old Anandians’ Hostel Guild proudly organized its annual “Sisu Nena Urumaya” felicitation ceremony to recognize academic excellence among the resident students of Ananda College. Held under the guidance of Mr. D. M. L. P. Dissanayake, Principal of Ananda College, the event paid tribute to 38 hostellers from Grades 6 to 11 who showcased exceptional performance at the school term tests conducted in 2023 and 2024.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of a special memorial scholarship in honour of the late Major General Janarala Upali Karunaratne, a proud past hosteller and an esteemed military officer. This prestigious scholarship was awarded to Prahashwara Dissanayake, a fellow hosteller, who secured the 6th place island-wide in the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination – Physical Science stream. His remarkable achievement was celebrated as a shining example of discipline, dedication, and the academic spirit nurtured within the hostel.

Adding further significance to the occasion, family members of the late Major General Karunaratne were also present, honouring his legacy and continuing connection to the Ananda hostel community.

The ceremony was graced by the Principal, members of the Old Anandians’ Hostel Guild including past presidents, teachers, and present hostellers. This year’s event was initiated by Mr. Chanda Seneviratne, the current President of the Guild, ensuring the continuation of this meaningful annual tradition.

The “Sisu Nena Urumaya” initiative not only inspires academic excellence but also fosters lasting unity between generations of hostellers, celebrating the legacy and promise of Ananda College’s hostel life.
